Second graders have started the year with Crazy Critters. A Crazy Critter is created by combining at least three different animal parts to make a whole new animal. Last week, students made sketchbooks and filled them with critter ideas. This week, second graders are moving on to a large sheet of paper and drawing their critter and its environment. Next week (and probably the week after, too!), we will use tempera to paint our critters.
Our focus with the drawings this week is to make use of the whole paper (think about the composition, and no teensy-tiny critters that we need a microscope to see!), to use shapes (no stick-figures), and include details that help the viewer learn about their critter.
